Components of Tofu Lettuce Wraps

There are 3 main components of Tofu Lettuce wrap recipe:

Tofu Mix

Tofu filling for lettuce wrap

Firm or Extra firm tofu is pressed and cut into small pieces before sautéing with green peppers.  Press down the tofu for at least 2 hours to remove the excess moisture. You can do this by weighing the tofu down with a clean heavy object; like placing a pan on it and then weighing the pan down with some cans of food.

Spicy Peanut satay sauce

I absolutely love this spicy peanut satay sauce and use it so many different ways- in buddha bowls, lettuce wraps, and dip spring rolls. I meal prep it a lot of the weekends and use it throughout the week.  The flavors are lip-smacking delicious and it makes whatever I use it in, so much tastier! It is creamy, salty, spicy, tangy, and so yummy!

It comes together quickly in 5 minutes and no blender is required if your peanut butter is runny enough.  If not, just add the ingredients in a blender for 30 seconds.  Store in the refrigerator for up to a week.

If you prepare it ahead of time, be sure to remove the satay sauce from the refrigerator an hour prior to serving as it is best at room temperature.

Lettuce and Topping

Lettuce- Lettuce is the vehicle to hold all the yummy filling and sauce. It is a good low-carb and low-calorie alternative to bread.  For this recipe, you can use your choice of iceberg, romaine hearts, or even butter lettuce.  Be careful in removing the lettuce stalks to keep them intact and wash and dry them properly before serving.  The lettuce provides a nice crisp element to these tofu lettuce wraps.

Toppings– I have used chopped green onions and roasted salted peanuts as toppings.  You can serve additional toppings as per your liking.  Some good choices to serve with the Tofu Lettuce wraps would be shredded carrots, toasted sesame seeds, chili garlic hot sauce, and additional soy sauce.  People can customize the lettuce wraps to their liking.
